MUSE (Marianne Ihlen)

He saw you that time
standing in a doorway
on the sunlit bohemian island

and now you follow through dusty tracks
and watch as he sings his songs
and plays to the listening crowd.

Daytimes swimming in the royal blue sea,
walking on sunbaked roads
and travelling up hills by donkey.

Evenings where Canadian words
caress Scandinavian ears and
speak of devotion to a bare-footed Muse.

You will place a flower on his desk
and remain in his thoughts
that inspire his art.

Marianne Ihlen met Leonard Cohen on Hydra island in the 1960s.

Across an Indigo Sea

If I could change the lens
through which to view the world

so that my uneven existence
can be like nibbling at the edges of time.

Like the vacuum of my life’s endeavour
seen through the void of eternity

then I will call out and send
my voice across an indigo sea.

I’ll put the blue sky in an envelope,
and stamp it with my hope.

I will watch it float away,
seeing more than can be understood.
